Many prominent Democrats are now joining Republicans to criticize Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan exit strategy. Democrat lead Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees are now planning to investigate the disaster of withdrawal from Afghanistan that has left close to 10,000 Americans and around 40,000 allies stranded in Afghanistan as the Taliban has taken over, according to a report by Axios.
Democrat Senators Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Mark Warner from Virginia chair the Foreign Relations and Intelligence committees respectively are reported to investigate President Biden and his administration amid this crisis.
“As the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I hope to work with the other committees of jurisdiction to ask tough but necessary questions about why we weren’t better prepared for a worst-case scenario involving such a swift and total collapse of the Afghan government and security forces. We owe those answers to the American people and to all those who served and sacrificed so much,” Senator Mark Warner said in a statement.
“I am disappointed that the Biden administration clearly did not accurately assess the implications of a rapid U.S. withdrawal. We are now witnessing the horrifying results of many years o policy and intelligence failures,” Senator Bob Menendez said in another statement.
Even Representative Gregory Meeks, Democrat Congressman from New York, chairing the House Foreign Affairs Committee is calling Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to “testify as soon as possible”
