Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden-appointed Director of Homeland Security, stepped into his role February 2, 2021. It took him roughly 6 months to understand what most Americans grasped much sooner. Our southern border is an absolute disaster.
While the Secretary is not admitting that publicly, audio was leaked recently of him saying exactly that in a recent meeting he had in Texas with border patrol agents.
“A couple of days ago I was down in Mexico, and I said look, you know, if, if our borders are the first line of defense, we’re going to lose and this is unsustainable,” Mayorkas said Thursday, according to the audio obtained by Fox News. “We can’t continue like this, our people in the field cant continue and our system isn’t built for it.”
Speaking with those agents, Mayorkas admitted that our system is incapable of handling this surge of illegal migration, saying that “‘very well’ aware that the sector recently came close to ‘breaking,'” according to Fox.
In an attempt to to encourage those present, the Secretary made a statement that contradicted everything else he was saying.
“It’s our responsibility to make sure that that never happens again,” he said. “The extent of the challenge should not be understated, but nor should our ability to meet it.”
So, which is it Mr. Secretary? Either our system is incapable of handling it, or our ability to handle it should not be understated?
July saw 212,000 migrant encounters at our southern border, which was a 13% increase over June, and in one day in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, they saw more than 4,000 contacts.
So what now?
One border patrol agent told Mayorkas the plain and simple truth:
“For those of us who have been around here long enough … we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. We’ve had this happen before. We know exactly how to shut it down. We need to make illegal entry illegal.”
Well said unidentified Border Patrol agent. Well said.
